Emergency Alert Tools

Fri, 11/07/2014 - 14:29

My daughter will be starting middle school next fall on a campus of around a thousand students.  From her first day of kindergarten on, she has had an emergency walkie-talkie that she carries with her everywhere that can immediately contact her school nurse about an emergency.  She also has a Seizure Buddy that goes with her everywhere, so she's never alone.  It's been awesome, and in a handful of situations, it's been the difference between her having help when she needed it and not.  Unfortunately, she won't be able to take her walkie-talkie with her to middle school.  Do you guys know of any apps or tools that she could carry with her that would be helpful in getting her the help she needs in a timely manner?  Thank you in advance.

Have you talked to the school

Have you talked to the school about this issue? I do know that some schools arround here have a person that is to work with parents and teachers to help handicaped kids move thru schools without causing problems to them ot opther students. You might also call the 24/7 help line to see what they know. Oh and they know alot about all kinds of things. You can find their number on almost any page on this site. They can even tell you how to get more information to the school to help the school understand more about our issues. I do hope this helps and she gets the assistance she needs.   While I wasn't young like your daughter I do know what it is like when your friends run away after seeing you in a convulsive seizure. I also know what it is like to hear the kids that helped so I knew who I wanted to be arround and I taught the ones that kinda left me by telling them I was no different than any other person. I have a handicap which cant be seen while most other handicaps can be seen
