EEG Report

Wed, 09/21/2016 - 16:32
My daughter's neurologist said she was having generalized spike and wave discharges but not seizures on the EEG. She has a history of absence seizures. The EEG states: Dysrhythmia grade 3 generalized atypical spike and wave discharges (awake and asleep). While awake, there was a presence of occasional generalized atypical spike-wave discharges, typically acquiring in runs of 2-4 seconds at a rate of approximately 3.5 Hertz. While sleeping, there was a continued activation of generalized atypical spike-wave discharges often as singlets or doublets, at times with alternating left or right predominance. The neurologist said she does not need to be medicated for these discharges but is at risk for a seizure. Again, she has had seizures when she was younger. She often has eye rolls and blinking.....the neuro said these are tics. Any thoughts? I feel like the report is wishy washy. I don't want to sit around waiting for a seizure to happen, but at the same time, do not want to medicate her if not necessary.
