Confused about Myoclonic seizures...

Mon, 06/15/2015 - 14:03

My daughter is 15 months old, she has myoclonic seizures everyday. We were told by the neuro to give diastat after 5 min of cluster of seizures which include myos. If I did that though I would be giving her diastat all day and everyday. Do myoclonic seizures cause brain damage? Is the seizures worse than her getting use to the meds? I am afraid she is going to get use to the meds and when she has a tonic clonic it won't work. She is already really hard to pull out of tonic clonics.

Please discuss this with your childs neurologist. diastat could be a rescue medication which stops seizures from clustering. If I am not mistaken it is given rectay and if it is then it takes a little time to get into the blood system.Did the neurologist explain what a cluster is? If not then please call him or his office and get further information on this matter. Or you can call the 24/7 help line and get questions answered. I have had clusters before and I have a rescue medication which stops them from clustering. The medication prescribed to me is lorazepam. I take it after the first seizure and the seizure doesn't cluster. The seizures I have are simple partial or focal seizures. Before I was prescribed the rescue med I might have a seizure and not have any peroblems. Then I might have one which is followed by another which os followed by another. The time period between those seizures was miniscule maybe 5-15 seconds. So now if I now have a seizure I take it and the clustering never starts.  1-800-332-1000     Please feel free to ask them here to.
