48 Hour Video EEG starting tomorrow...

Hi all, My ds (25 months, PDD-NOS, non-verbal and tonic-clonic seizures) is going into the hospital tomorrow for a 48 hour video eeg. He started having seizures in Feb with a virus and was in the hospital for about 2 1/2 weeks. He was put on Keppra, Topamax and Phenobarb and was doing well. In the middle of March they took him off the Phenobarb and he continued to do well. By the begining of April he was still seizure free but wasn't playing with any of his toys. We cut back on the Keppra and he was starting to play agian. Unfortuateley he had strep and the seizures started. They upped his Keppra and he did okay until the middle of June when he started to have sometype of activity about 10 minutes after he feel asleep at naptime. It has gotten worse and he is going tomorrow for monitoring. Right now he isn't playing with any toys and I don't know how I am going to keep him occupied while being hooked up to the computer. He loves to wander around and play in his ball pit. I think we will be watching many dvd's and reading a lot while we are there. Any suggestions on what we could do would be great. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. Take care Paula

I have a 21 month old and it was very hard to keep him entertained while having a 24 hr VEEG. He also likes to run around alot and doesn't want to be confined to one space. Make sure to bring alot of toys and if you have bring an extra person to help out. Someone has to be sitting in the room the whole time, so it's a good idea because sometimes the nurses are too busy to sit in there for very long. Good luck to you and I hope you get some answers from it. Take Care, Michelle (Hayden's mom)

Hello, my daugther is 26 months old and just had her 24hr EEG done. She likes to wander alot and run free. She actually didn't notice the electrodes once they got them all hooked up and we put a shirt on over the backpack thing that carries the responder thing so that way she didn't see it. It was a real out of sight out of mind kind of thing. The worst part was sleeping but we had her sleep in a hospital bed instead of a crib because the cribs are kind of intimidating to her and she slept pretty well. I took alot of movies with us (dvds) but when we got there they only had VHS which actually wasn't that bad because they were all movies that she hadn't seen yet. We also let her snack on special treats and drink special drinks while we were there which was nice because that was a treat for her. We also got a doctor kit, which helped her a bunch because she played doctor the whole time. I would also recommend having someone else there with you even if its for a few hours because then you can relax a little bit or take a shower and brush your teeth. My husband stayed the night with Kaitlyn and said she slept pretty well. Another thing that we did was have them put gauze over her head so that way she couldn't feel the things on her head. She did hate getting them taken off more than any other thing in the whole time we were there.. Good luck and take care, Emily
