2 y/o, possible aura?!

Thu, 07/19/2007 - 14:54
Kaitlyn (2) has been telling us lately that she doesn't feel well or that something hurts... It's completely out of the blue for her and when she just did it again, she asked to go lay down after she said that she didn't feel well. Is it possible for a 2 year old to have auras? And how would you know? Should I watch her for a certain after this feeling starts? Or should I let her lay down? I don't know what is going on. She is not on any medicines right now in hopes that we can hold off on starting medicine due to the side effects that she has experienced. Any information would be greatly appreciated!! I'm just concerned and wondering if I am missing something else now. Thanks!

Our 11 year old son had his first known seizure at age 8. During the following year, he began to recognize certain feelings as auras. Now that he is able to do that, even if he has a new aura, he still somehow knows it is an aura. Also, now that he recognizes these feelings he says that he has been having them for as long as he can remember...he remembers being in preschool and having some but of course didn't know what they were at that time. He has had several different types; hearing screams or growls, feeling like he is being pushed, feeling like he is "jumping out of his body" for a second, feeling like his body is being stretched, an uncomfortable feeling in his stomach or chest, a tingling sensation in his mouth, lips or tongue, there are more different types but I can't think of them all right now. I think it is possible for her to have auras and she seems to know that her body needs to rest...maybe have her lay down on the couch or somewhere close to you so you can keep an eye on her or have a baby monitor wherever she is going to be if you will be in another room. Also, my son sometimes has episodes where he will have several auras (which are technically simple partial seizures) but none of his regular seizures. I hope this is helpful to you in some way. I sometimes ramble. Good luck to you and your family.
