Symptoms of Epilepsy

I am not sure if I actually have this but need some guidance. For the past couple of years, I have these strange dizzy spells, which feel like "deja vue". I feel as if whatever I'm doing at the present time I've done before and it rushes back to me, then I get really dizzy, lose control of my speech, cannot think straight or function for several minutes. Most of the time I have been alone when this happens. Afterwards, I am really tired and out of it for several days, everything tastes and smells funny. Could this be a sign of epilepsy? I've been to several doctors and they do not feel it is anything to worry about-they say it could be stress, but I am not stressed that much over anything at the present time. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yes, the deja-vu feelings are called Simple Partials. I have this type of seizure, and I'll have convulsive seizures in my sleep called Grand Mal seizures. I have a brain injury which causes my Epilepsy. I've had these seizures since 1995. I take a pretty low dose of one medication, and have things controlled rather well. It sounds like you also have another kind of seizure, the smells and tastes are called an "aura" , which is a sign that a seizure is beginning. As far as being out of it for several days, you may have to elaborate a bit for everyone here to be able to describe what type of seizure (if any) that may be. First off, you need to get a second opinion, maybe your doc can refer you to a neurologist. Other people on this site can tell you all you need to know. You've done a good thing, by serching for answers yourself! Here's where you can gain knowledge and put it to good use! We're all behind you 100 percent! Good luck and welcome to the community!

Thank you Sara......my doctor is supposed to call me back with an appt for a neurologist. One of my co-workers noticed that I was slurring my words when I was saying something while one of these episodes was happening but he did not notice anything else out of the ordinary. Thank you for your comments!

I'd also like to add to check your insurance to see if you need to get a referal or you can just go to one on your own. On my insurance, I just made the appointment with a neurologist and went. Good luck
