Doctors Can't Diagnose Me

Mon, 03/09/2015 - 10:14

First off, I want to say I will be beyond grateful or thankful for any help / info anyone can offer. I understand that you guys can't diagnose me, but any help with someone having similar experiences or possible therioes of what this could be would be greatly appreciated.

About when I turned 19 and graduated from high school I started having these strange phases. I honestly had them for months before I even caught on anything was happening. I'll try to describe the experience as best as possible.

  • Sometimes I'll get this indescribable feeling that I'm about to have one, so sometimes, not always, I can predict when they're about to happen
  • When it happens people have told me I just stare off into space blankly with close to no response
  • They last anywhere from 10 seconds to 5 minutes
  • I get this strange intense nauseous feeling as they're happening
  • Though I get the nauseous feeling- it's overall not a bad feeling
  • I get a déjà vu feeling
  • I lose all sense of time and direction
  • I get very confused and usually have no idea what is happening
  • It feels like I'm dreaming with my eyes open
  • Sometimes after they end I lose all memory of the experience and anything that happened right after
  • I'll have them in clusters for a week or two and maybe not have another for a month and then repeat
  • I've had up to 9 in one day before
  • Only on about 3 out of the many I've had, I got tunnel vision

I've been to multiple doctors. I've had many tests performed. But for some reason no doctor can seem to induce me, so they can't diagnose me either. The closest thing I've gotten for help is blood pressure medicine, which didn't help at all. Do these symptoms sound like a type of seizure? Or could they be something different all together? I apologize for bringing this to these forums, but I'm desperate for some type of insight to this condition. All / any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Most of what you posted with the dot infront could be several different types of seizures. Been there done that. If the doctors you have been seeing are general practioners then they can't diagnose epilepsy or may come up with other things that can cause some of the issues you posted. You need to see a neurologist preferably one that specializes in epilepsy) Who will do probably 2 tests, One is an EEG the other may be a MRI. The EEG is a test showing the electrical activity comming from the brain. The MRI shows the brain itself. But then they may not need the tests to diagnose epilepsy. All a seizure is "is an electrical impulse hitting wrong in the brain". Hitting wrong causes a chain reaction. Until that chain reaction is over you are in a seizure. The EEG shows where that electrical impulse may be. The MRI can then be looked at to see if anything is different in that aarea of the brain. By different I mean a growth deformation, scar tissue and anything else that might cause the brains electrical activity to be different in that area. With me they found scar tissue. That scar tissue was from a hemmorage to the brain. That hemmorage was caused by a blow to my head which should have knocked me out if just for a few seconds. Further teting showed the blow to my head was between 6-8 YOA.I had been wirtten up in school for day dreaming in class. When I was diagnosed the diagnosis was Grand Mal. Petite Mal and Focal Motor epilepsy. Absence seizures are petite mal seizures and they look like the person is day dreaming. My focal seizures did the same thing. In some of my seizures I didn't remember the time. In others (focal seizures) I was answeringthe question asked but until the seizure was over the answer never came out. The teacher had moved to the next student and I was answering the question before the other student. As for clusters of them in a day...That can happen. If you are experiancing these more frequently and they get longer of more in a cluster you do need to be looked at. The first time I knew about me having a seizure was after having a grand mal seizure. After testing is when we realized the other  things were also seizures. I hope this helps and you get the assistance you needJoe

Jackson I made a post in Living with Epilepsy-Adults. The Post is called "Is this as good as it get's" but it is very much related to my experience driving. If you read this you might become aware of just what can happen to you. You seem to be willing to look at the responsibility you carry as a driver, but your frequency for driving is all your choice.

Jackson ( Joe ,Jazz & Mereloaded )  have really been helping people in the Forums. Please remember the Neurologist is working for and with you. An honest and straightforward relationship is usually a good way to get things started. Ask him not to sugar coat anything and if you are not 100% sure about what he tells you,  ask him to explain the situation further. Exchanging information is very much a 2 way street.
