Wanted: Diagnosis

Thu, 05/26/2005 - 16:55

Been taking between 300 and 600mg of Carbatrol a day. Have been siezure free for the last 3-4 years.   Being the stubborn Greek that I am, I decided to wean myself off a couple weeks ago.

On Tuesday (after cutting the Carbatrol on Sunday) I had 2 siezures (gran mal).  Need some opinions...Was this caused by dropping the medication cold turkey?

possibly...Stopping all meds cold turkey? That is what the Doc's did to me to make me seize when I had my VEEG.

Never stop cold turkey. It has to be weaned very slowly. You have been on the meds for a while and your body is used to taking them.be carefulLisahttp://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/EpilepsyApproach/

I did sorta the same thing a couple of weeks ago.  I cut my carbitrol down by 1 pill a day for two days and I wound up having a week full of seizures.  BAD IDEA!!

It is now apparent that you cannot go off your meds, so....don't do that again  ;-)
