Simple Partial Seizures or Complex Partial Seizures

Tue, 10/24/2006 - 15:52
I had my first seizure in the 6th grade - it was a grand mal seizure caused by sleep deprivation. I was put on dialantin. I did not have another grand mal until I was 18 and then again when I was 25. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Simple Partial and Complex Partial Seizures. I have instances when I feel like my teeth are dragging asphalt or a my fingernails and toenails are being pulled out or are dragging a chalk board and then I jerk. My neurologists have tried multiple medications. Most of them work - but eventually I get used to them and they quit working - so I have to try something else. Right now I am on Zonegran, Lexapro and Klonopin. Anxiety seems to bring them on - OR - the epilepsy medicine causes my anxiety. I am a programmer - and I am beginning to be unable to do my job. I can not keep my focus. Is there anyone out there that knows what I am talking about. People look at me and I look fine, but I sure don't feel fine.

Sorry to say it sounds too familiar. Sometimes my teeth feel like I am biting the metal tip of a garden hose. My fingers and toes also quite often feel as if something underneath them is poking them. It's not that pain that bothers me though, it's the fact that when I feel that pain my body feels tingly and I get light headed. I also get them in the arches of my feet. I was a programmer but it became to difficult to focus that long all day. Now I do product support and it is a lot better for me. Good luck with everything.

Thank you so much for your reply. I have wanted someone to tell me that they know what they mean about my teeth and stuff for years!!! And yes I feel weird all over when it happens. I know I need to change jobs, and I have been looking into it and have applied for other jobs. I am much better when I am doing things that keep me active and when I get enough rest. I just don't think the computer is good for me. Thank you so much for your response. And Good Luck to you too!!

thanks for that description of sucking on the end of a garden hose. that's exactly what I feel like before I have a seizure. I have partial complex, nocturnal and am on Keppra, lamictal, tegretol, and prozac to help with the depression. are yours controlled and what are you taking?
