Simple Partial Seizures or Complex Partial Seizures

Tue, 10/24/2006 - 15:52
I had my first seizure in the 6th grade - it was a grand mal seizure caused by sleep deprivation. I was put on dialantin. I did not have another grand mal until I was 18 and then again when I was 25. 5 years ago I was diagnosed with Simple Partial and Complex Partial Seizures. I have instances when I feel like my teeth are dragging asphalt or a my fingernails and toenails are being pulled out or are dragging a chalk board and then I jerk. My neurologists have tried multiple medications. Most of them work - but eventually I get used to them and they quit working - so I have to try something else. Right now I am on Zonegran, Lexapro and Klonopin. Anxiety seems to bring them on - OR - the epilepsy medicine causes my anxiety. I am a programmer - and I am beginning to be unable to do my job. I can not keep my focus. Is there anyone out there that knows what I am talking about. People look at me and I look fine, but I sure don't feel fine.

Liz, I posted this elsewhere for you, but since you're looking for it here, I'll stick it here. I take a Zonegran/Lamictal combo at night. My doc said I'd probably get up 100 times a night to go to the bathroom, but I was doing that already. Now that I've been taking it, I sleep all night. It worked the opposite for me. She also told me to drink lots of water cuz it's possible to get dehydrated with the Zonegran, but the problem is since I've been taking it, I'm never thirsty! I haven't had any bad side effects from it. I get headaches in the late morning after I take my Lamictal, but that's all I take in the a.m, so I know it has nothing to do with the Zonegran. I like it.
