Behaviour difficulties in 5yo

Fri, 11/18/2016 - 15:33
My son's epilepsy has recently returned (he has infantil spasms as a baby) and we're trying to get the meds right. Meanwhile his behaviour is off the chart. He's hyperactive, aggressive, stubborn and obstinate. His sleep is so messed up, even with melatonin supplements, and he's often up for an hour or two shouting and throwing things and refusing to stay in his bed. It's extremely upsetting and the worst part is, his seizures (partial, temporal lobe) are worse when he's tired. My neurologist is very sympathetic, he says it's very common and he will try to put me in touch with people who can give me practical advice. Can anyone here relate and share any strategies that work? Thanks x

You don't say what medication

You don't say what medication he is on.  My son is on Keppra XR and we give him 100 mg of Vitamin B-6 in the morning to settle him down.  It works a little...  doesn't completely eliminate the aggression, but it helps.  I can tell the difference when he doesn't get it.  We just buy it over the counter.  Be sure to tell your neuro if he's taking it.

My son is 8 and he is on

My son is 8 and he is on Keppra 7ml 2x a day, he too suffers from irritability, aggression, hard time at school, focusing, etc. My son has BRE and behaves the same when its time for bed. I asked his Neurologist to change the Keppra and she prescribed Trileptal. I hope this change is in the right direction. For now i just cry every day. Night time is the worst! God bless I will keep him in our prayers.
