Was it a seizure?

Fri, 10/12/2007 - 01:04
Hello. I hope this is the right area to ask and that it's okay to ask... First of all, I have had 2 grand mal seizures in the last five years, both while I was asleep, so obviously I do not recall them. I am still a teenager, so I live with my parents, and both have witnessed these seizures. I also suffer from partial seizures, and those happen at any time during the day and night, sometimes while I'm awake and sometimes while I'm asleep (I wake up from them normally). I have not been diagnosed with epilepsy, and am still waiting on results from my first ever EEG. Anyway, the other night I woke up suddenly and my entire body was shaking, and definitely not due to coldness. I remember thinking that it felt almost as though my insides (pretty much everything under skin) was trying to get out. And as suddenly as I woke up, I had fallen asleep again, and I do not even remember laying my head on my pillow to go back to sleep. The next morning I felt just as I had after the grand mals... Apparently, no one in my family had heard anything in the night, which is how they'd known about the last 2, so I am the only one with any clue about it. As I've said, I have had both grand mals while asleep, and do not remember anything except getting woken by family after both... So was this a seizure or was it something else? By the way, I plan on mentioning this to my doctor during my appointment next Thursday no matter what, but I would still like to know if that was a seizure or not... Anyway, thanks a lot! I'd really appreciate an answer. :)

Hi Just, I think they might be. I get this at night, and sometimes through the day. I have been intending to ask the question is it possible to have more than one type of seizure, as so far I have had 3 types (from what I am told, and the conscious ones I am aware of). and they happen when they want to, no control at all over them, though medication has slowed them down so I'm happy about that...document everything that happens and take it to the doc...they don't know if you don't tell them..goood luck

Thank you. That was the first time this has ever happened, and hasn't happened since. My family is helping me keep track of everything that's been going on, as more and more stuff just seems to keep popping up. I will most certainly mention it to my doctor Thursday. And I am happy to hear that your medication is slowing them down! Though I do not have seizures (other than partial) while awake, I know how frustrating they can be. Thank you again for your reply! Good luck to you as well!
