Uncontrolled seizures

Mon, 01/21/2008 - 14:33
My previously 100% healthy 6 yr old started having seizures on 12/16.  they have been diagnosed as partial complex and he has between 20-40 per day, lasting 10-30 seconds each.  We have done all the possible testing, 3 mris, pet scan, ictal spect, 3 video eegs, spinal tap, blood tests.  There are no physical causes for Min's seizures.  We are on a cocktail of trileptal, keppra, clorazepate, and now depakote but still have 20+ per day.  Min is extremely tired, unstable on his feet and not at all himself.  We are very confusted, frustrated, and scared to death as we begin to think about what to do if we can't find a medicine that controls Min's seizures.  Any advice?  Thanks.

Hello,

I used to have cluster complex partial seizures myself and I know how hard it must be on your son.  I hope you are planning on seeing an epilepstologist if you are not already seeing one.  There are a lot of meds that might work and so there is still the hope that one will work.  You also might go to the epilepsy foundations parents helping parents forum.  It is a very busy forum with lots of fellow parents who have had the experience you are going through.  Have they designated an area of the brain the seizures are coming from?  Have you looked into other methods of control like a ketogenic diet (the pediatric epilepsy forum on BrainTalk has a forum about ketogenic diets).
