Possible Somatosensory Reflex Epilepsy?

Sun, 08/03/2014 - 14:34

Greetings,

I think I might have reflex epilepsy.

I have a number of peculiar symptoms (neuro and non-neuro) that may or may not be related, but there is one in particular that is expecially interesting and curious.

If things touch my left lower leg on the outside from the ankle to the knee (more or less), it causes my left ring finger to rapidly twitch. This is easily repeatable nearly 100% of the time.

So far, my doctors have been uninterested and none have offered any possible diagnoses whatsoever.

My main questions are:

1) Has anyone seen something like this before?

2) How would I know whether this is reflex epilepsy?

3) Where would I go to find case studies of relfex epilepsy, so that I can compare this symptom with documented cases?

I've had this particular issue for several years, so it's not an emergency, but I worry that it might be related to something potentially serious.

Thanks for any information or insights. I'd be happy to answer any clarifying questions.

touching a leg may do nothing

touching a leg may do nothing to most people. Reflez seizures happen to many people. They happen when someone is photo sensative. Or to me it is getting to hot to fast. Those are triggers to people who have epilepsy, As for finding a place to obtain information about seizures and types of epilepsy. All you need to do is go to the learn section. Start with epilepsy 101. They types of epilepsy or types of seizures. Until you have seen a neurologist who specialises in epilepsy you can't say if your issues are seizures. You didn't post if tests had been done, If you saw your regular doctor he is not a specialist in epilepsy so he may not know the 40+ different types of seizures or the different types of epilepsy. I hope this helps and yo uget the information you need
