Possible seizure activity at sleep onset?

Sat, 03/12/2016 - 21:02
Hi everyone, I have been wracking my brain, researching like crazy trying to find out what's happening with me. Almost a year ago now, out of the blue I started having episodes where I began waking up gasping for air. That led to shortness of breath for a period of time during the day as well. I was getting heart palpitations and all kinds of weird symptoms. The breathing issues have resolved, but one thing has continued ongoing for many months now. I started feeling what feels like jolts of electricity from my brain down my spinse. These jolts have only happened right at onset of sleep...like the second I am about to fall asleep I get them. They either cause muscle twitching or what feels like an adrenaline rush followed my increased heart rate etc. This keeps me awake because it happens every single time I am on the verge of sleep and can happen many many times before my body is so exhausted that I may finally be able to get a couple hours of sleep before having to wake up for work. While these seem to only happen right at sleep, during the day I also notice a weird spacey feeling in my head. I also notice a rising feeling in my stomach that seems to accompany episodes where I feel short of breath. I also am starting to feel like I have electricity running through my body during the day as well, which I feel myself fighting or focusing on not twitching. This is all starting to scare me. My doctor insists it's anxiety but I have told him repeatedly I don't feel like I have anything to be anxious about and I generally feel relaxed most of the time. One other weird thing that started a couple of years ago and comes on very rarely is feeling like I can see through my eyes when they are closed, and again only when I am about to sleep. I am fully aware when this happens, I have actually reached up to touch my eyelids before to make sure they are really closed and sure enough they are but I am "looking" around my room. I never thought much of that (just felt kinda cool to me and since it wasn't causing any harm and nothing else was going on at the time I dismissed it) until recently when I started reading about epilepsy. Is it possible that what I am experiencing could be a type of epilepsy? Or symptoms that may precede epilepsy? I get the rising feeling in my stomach usually right before I get the electrical jolt down my spine so I feel like it's a predictor for me and I know that is also a symptom of epilepsy. I wish my doctor would take me more seriously. Any suggestions on how to convince my doctor to test me for epilepsy or send me for a hospital sleep test or something? I just get "it's anxiety" and now he's giving me zopiclone for sleep but that's it.
