Nocturnal Ep (or petit mal)?

Tue, 10/18/2016 - 12:56
Hi! I wonder if I could be having nocturnal epilepsy? One of my parents has it (as well as petit mal) and so does my siblings and my parents think that some of the things that i've experienced seem similar to nocturnal epilepsy (they've had it diagnosed). I'm going to get it checked out but i'm on a waiting list. I sleep alone but our dog used to sleep in my room at night and some nights for no particular reason it seemed he would start panicking and wanting despereatly to get out of my room, someone in my family would let him out of there but it wouldn't wake me up, and well.. obviously a seizure could scare an animal. I tend to wake up with a sore jaw and a few months ago my shoulders and arms were aching for no apparent reason when I woke up in the morning, it felt as though i'd had some heavy workout the day before which I really hadn't. I've had sleep paralysis twice (at least I think it was sleep paralysis?), I couldn't move and I saw things, both times I saw someone who wasn't actually there, staring at me. Sometimes (and this i've never told anyone) when i'm going to sleep my hand or neck or just a finger can start twitching for no reason, it always bothers me and I think to myself that maybe i'm just overreacting and doing it on my own so I try not to twitch but I can't control it. I've also lately started twitching my shoulders in the day and I don't know if it's some kind of nervous tick or something else? I don't know why I started doing it either. I'm always exhausted, it doesn't matter if I sleep 10 hours or more than 10 hours or if I sleep 5 hours i'm always exhausted and I have no ability to concentrate, I lost my ability to concentrate when I was maybe 15 and apparently that could be a symptom for ep? I used to read all the time now I can barely get through a page. And I tend to get random pains in my body even when I haven't done anything out of the ordinary and i'm gonna stay anon here but I am under 25 - I shouldn't have to feel this way. I also read that headaches could be a symptom? and I have (also since I was around 15) headaches so often that an entire headache-free week is out of the normal for me. Also - and I don't know if this is relevant? - but especially when I was younger I used to kick and turn in my sleep so aggressively that when I woke even the bedsheet would be lying on the floor in a pile and my pillow could lie as if it had been thrown off my bed and onto the floor. Is that normal or could that actually have been night seizures? I am often also impossible to wake, once when I slept over with friends at a friends sleepover they were being really loud while I was asleep and they noticed that nothing woke me up so they told me in the morning how they had done all kinds of loud noises right next to me and I hadn't woken up at all. They seemed to think it was strange although they were laughing about it. I'm often caught just staring into space as well, once back in school at the beginning of a class our teacher told us all to take our books up and start reading, I heard her loud and clear but I just sat there staring right ahead of me - I don't even know why I did that?? So our teacher had to tell me again before I stopped staring into space and started studying. This is one example, according to my parents this happens rather often although I do not agree since I can't remember doing it that often. Does it sound like I could have some kind of epilepsy or is this something completely different??

petite mal seizures are absence seizures where the person looks like they are day dreaming. There are many other types of seizures. As for your dog and seizures. He might not be afraid of the seizure but knows it will happen. Mine would try to move me off the street and into a lawn so if I fell I would be safer. She would also get in front of me if I was trying to cross the street. This was before they had service dogs for the different people that can use them.
