New to seizures: Confused & Scared

Wed, 04/06/2016 - 03:33
Okay I'll start off with the beginning: A couple weeks ago I had my first seizure I don't know what kind because I am not entirely sure how conscious I was for it... If that makes sense. I was riding home with some friends and felt car sick which I never do, then I threw up passes out and next thing I knew I hear "she's having a seizure pull over" and I vaguely remember convulsing... They took me to the ER whom aggressively yanked me up and then I went into my second one.... After being in the ER they said "I was carsick and have bad anxiety attack and I don't know what a seizure is, and we don't know what happened but it wasn't a seizure" even though I seized in the nurses arms.... A couple weeks later (a few days ago) I seized at work and I remember ringing up a customer and I couldn't type on the keyboard I kept hitting keys with my hand but it wasn't what they were saying, and I apologized and started again and I couldn't control what I was typing and then everything sound wise faded out and I collapsed and woke up seizing according to the school nurse I was ringing up I had a tonic clonic seizure, she said I went for nearly a minute but I only remember 10 seconds.... ER was called took me in an ambulance and wrote on my diagnosis: "migraine" "convulsions" "anxiety"..... I now have appts with a neurologist and scans for EEG and MRI coming up but my questions are... 1) can you seize and go unconscious and come back near the end? 2) am I as crazy as the ER makes me think or did I have a seizure? 3) a lot of people are saying it could psydosezires meaning all in my head, I really doubt that's the case how do I know the difference? 4) can you seize and not pee your pants or bite your tongue? 5) so far there are no links or triggers or auras to either of them so is it epileptic even with no triggers and auras? 6) I have had severe nausea more in the esophagus like that burning feeling along with a headache for days after it is that normal? 7) after my seizure I have this dazed and out of body in a dream feeling and I was told its anxiety, am I doing this to myself? 8) What do I do about work if I can't drive or function? Should I go anyway? And hope it doesn't happen again? 9) I don't have a history of epilepsy but I do have a history of migraines for nearly a year and then I had my first seizure a few weeks ago? Is that normal? I know I have a lot of questions but with medical professionals making me feel crazy, and not knowing a lot about this I thought who better than people who deal with this and can show I'm not alone.... I appreciate any time you take to read and reply, thank you.

ZandiAnswers to your questions.1. yes. There are people that have had seizures for years and not know it. If yo usee someone daydreaming they may be having a seizure. There are several types of seizures and most do not have convulsions.2.IN the ER they run general tests which are run on all people. If this was a one time event then it can be dismissed as non epileptic. so no you are not crazy and the ER people need to look at it as a one time event. A person can have a seizure for many different things and not be an epileptic. I have a friend who takes medication and one of the side effects is a possiable seizure. So yes one time events are not looked at as epilepsy.3. Yes there are other seizures that look just like a epileptic seizure. but they aren't psyco.  They are a seizure disoeder but non epileptic. NSDF has a site and they are trying to get neurologists to help treat and diagnosis both because they both are seizure disorders.4. YES In the last 50+ years I have never bitten my tongue. Most of the cuts in the tongue come from the head hitting something. I had 32 stiches in my tongue and jaw from a fall before I ever had a seizure.5.YES auras are like warnings to some people but they are also seizures. Go to the help section and read about the different triggers. But understand that the list is not complete because each person is different so their triggers will be to. Just like their seizures are. They may have the same type but just like your features so are your seizures.6.not sure7. the dazed out feeling if there and many people get it. After a seizure it takes time for you to get back to normal. If it was convulsive then more time is needed.8.If you can't drive find a way to get there. If you are put on meds then those should control your seizures where you can work. I started working at 17 and I retired a few years ago.9.It  may not run in your family. As for yopur migraines and their history when you have your tests inform the neurologist of that. Research in some seizures there are migraines. You will get answers from many people in here. Some will be people that research it because of a family member having it. Others will be like me using my experiances and what I researched back in the 60'sPlease come back and let us know how things went with the neurologist.Joe
