Myoclonic Seizures

Fri, 03/23/2007 - 14:56
Hello all, I have been tested for myoclonic seizures twice. Once with a regular eeg and another with a 48 hour turbin I had to wear and both tests came back negative. I've seen two neurologist whom both did not care about the real diagnosis. They were both quick to give me medication without a true diagnosis. I was in the hospital april 2006, the docs thought I had a stroke, but one doc thought it was seizures, even without a eeg. So he put me on depakote. Another doctor took me off depakote. I'm confused and my symptoms are getting worse. It feels like someone is shocking my body. It first started with just facial jerking. So I seen a maxillofacial doctor. Now my entire body jerks and it's progressively getting worse by the day. Do anyone know of any other way myoclonic seizures can be diagnosed.

Hi I have been thru a similar situation. The jerking started very slowly in a toe and progressed to full Tonic Clonic seizures. I had MRI's, EEG's and a 5 day VEEG. All of them came back with no abnormal electrical activity. Yet I had 17 seizures of Myoclonic jerks and Tonic Clonics in the hospital that were videotaped. They decided that I had a form of Myoclonus which is similar to Epilepsy but can come from other neuromuscular problems. They did a muscle biopsy to rule out mitocondrial origins and have put me on Klonopin and Zongran. Check out the NINDS website for Myoclonus and see if any of the descriptions look familiar. It can be as simple as Lyme disease and you should be tested for that too. Hope that helps. Joan
