Is my neurologist the worst?

Thu, 07/16/2015 - 14:14

I was referred by another doctor because she thought I was having seizures.  The neurologist, from day one, was dismissive and demeaning.  She told me from the get go that I wasn't having seizures.  She requested approval for an MRI by saying I was having hallucinations (which I have never had in my life). The MRI was denied because you can't see a hallucination on an MRI.  I called the insurance company to explain that 50 year olds arent newly diagnosed with schizophrenia, nor do most 50 year olds drop acid.  Eventually, the MRI was approved because the neurologist provided more information.  I asked the insurance company if the neuro disputed the hallucination and I was told NO, that was still in my records.  Now I'm REALLY curious to find out what else she is putting in my record.  There were multiple entries of things I supposedly said that I NEVER said.  What was MOST insulting was her entry using a politically correct term for saying I was having fake seizures.  I was pretending to have seizures?!?  I had previously requested a referral for another neuro, but that neuro refused to see me because she had "nothing to offer."  Well sure, what neurologist would want to see someone who was faking having seizures? It was later confirmed that I had temporal lobe partial seizures by EEG and I was put on Rx.  Despite this, she continued to list pseudo (pretend) seizures in my medical record.   I was furious.  I sent Her a letter saying if I was having pseuoseizures I would discontinue the Lamictal and take pseudomedication such as tic tacs, which would be just as helpful with fewer side effects.  She  responded by saying it was a resident who had erroneously entered info in my chart which she corrected.  She provided a description of how she corrected my chart by entering how I supposedly described my seizures by entering four different symptoms.  ALL FOUR of the symptoms she listed I have NEVER had, nor have I ever reported.  Here is what happened (I've been an RN for 25 years, so I have 1st hand knowledge). She decided that I was having fake seizures and then she documented things that supported that...hallucination, panic attacks, hyperventilation, breathy voice.  She finally removed the pseudo seizures from my record and I was able to get another neuro who will see me.  Fingers crossed, he won't be a total D*CK.
