my 2 1/2 year may have epilepsy?

My 2 1/2 year old daughter, Jordan, has been wearing glasses since last fall. We are on a US Air Force Base in Japan, and the medical center here leaves a lot to be desired... We noticed she was crossing her eyes, then she started having eye "spasms." We got her into the optometrist on base right away and have been following "doctors orders." Well, the spasms really haven't gotten any better. It happens a couple times a day - sometimes more or less, more when she's sleepy. I'll try to describe the spasms as best as I can, it happens without warning and last anywhere from 15 to 45 seconds. Her pupils will constrict and Jordan will do a kind-of Stevie Wonder impersonation, with her head swaying back and forth. She can still see during the spasms, but her line of vision is way off. I believe that she can still hear me during the spasms. The spasms don't affect any other area of her body and when it's over, she's right back to normal. The optometrist on base explained the spasms as sort of a "charley-horse" in Jordan's eyes. Like the muscles would get overworked when she would try to look at something close up and then try to see something far away and vice-versa. Since the spasms hadn't gotten better, we had an appointment here yesterday to make sure it wasn't anything more than her eyesight. The pediatrician here, Dr. Stokes, was wonderful. He said it could be a rare type of seizure. But to find out for sure, we have to take a little trip. We found out a few weeks that in about we'll be taking Jordan to Tripler Army Medical Center in Hawaii so that she can see a specialist and have an MRI. I'm actually relieved, now we can find out what's going on and get it taken care of (possibly surgery). The reason we have to go to Hawaii is that the hospital here in Misawa is pretty bares bones, even women with high-risk pregnancies or who are having twins don't deliver here. I'm curious if these symptoms sound familiar to anyone on here? We are getting the round around about our trip to Hawaii, and I'm afraid it might be more serious than the Dr.'s here think. They say they're not sure how do conduct an MRI with a 2 year old? Thanks for any help or advice.

When she has these spells, does she blink her eyes rapidly?I have a two and a half year old who had an MRI done just two weeks ago and they had to put her to sleep since you are not allowed to move at all in the machine. They gave her an IV, she went to sleep and they did the test. She woke up and was very grouchy and dopey but was fine. Good luck with your little one!

I had seizures at age 2 back in the eighties and found from tests I had a benign brain tumor. According to my mother I would smack my lips and my eyes would blink. I dont know if they do the same today but they didnt operate right away, they try to control the seizures with meds first. They tested me and kept me on antiepileptic drugs till age nine when they did surgery.
