Mesial Temporal Sclerosis, Anyone?

Fri, 04/22/2016 - 15:48
I was diagnosed with partial seizures in October 2015 because of my symptoms and an abnormal eeg. Was put on Keppra, that worked for a while than I couldn't handle the dose increase, so I was put on lamactil, worked wonderful, than I got the dang rash. Put on trileptal, got a rash, than zonegran, had trouble breathing. So I got tired of dealing with the neurologist who only wanted to give me pills instead of find an answer.. I started seeing a new neurologist who immediately said he was going to find out the cause, or do is best to. He ordered a more detailed MRI and a 72 hour ambulatory video eeg. Well I'm still waiting on the EEG but my MRI shows left mesial temporal sclerosis. I don't go back to see him until May 5 to get a better explanation. Just wondering if anyone has been diagnosed with this?

I was diagnosed with Temporal

I was diagnosed with Temporal Mesial Sclerosis in 2011.  I was found incoherent on the floor and taken to hospital.  At first they thought I had a brain tumour but later, the night before I was due to be operated on, they decided it was TMS.  I made a reasonable recovery but experienced multiple TIAs for a year afterwards- sometimes up to 40 per day but very short and not too disturbing.I, too, was on Keppra and still am but the breakthrough came when I also started taking Lamotragine.  It took a long time to get the dosage right but, five years since stabilising, I am pleased to report that I have had no further attacks.  I do have some slight confusion and short term memory problems but generally I have been pretty healthy.I find it very confusing to know whether I have had a stroke, have epilepsy or what?  They seem to be very vague terminologies.  Filling in medical insurance forms and the like is a nightmare but at least I am well enough to have a go at it.  Generally I attach a letter which gives them a summary of the facts as the forms don't really cover the condition adequately.Best of luckDon
