Looking for help interpeting EEG

Thu, 06/18/2015 - 22:33

My nerologist said my EEG was normal - I downloaded it from online and just read it - It says it's "Abnormal"

18 channel EEG done in the awake and dowsy states. Poserior dominat rhythm is well formed at 11 hz with physiological attenuation with eye opening hyperventilation produced minimal build up.
Photic stimulation produced minimal occipital driving.

The patient has frequent, left greater then right sharp theta transients primarily in the t3 to t5 region. At times there can be seen slowing into the theta range which is irregular after these bursts for up to 2-3 sec.

No evidence of epileptic activity was seen.

INTERPRETATION: Abnormal electroencephalogram consistent with
underlying left temporal seizure tendency.

So whats your question about

Submitted by Anonymous on Sat, 2015-06-20 - 19:58
So whats your question about the EEG or your neurologist? Is it possiable for a neurologist to say an EEG is normal even tho what you see might say something else?I had 20-25 different EEG's all came back normal. The first EEG that came back with abnormalities was one in which I fell asleep in.Could it be your neurologist wants further testing??? What you need to do is call your neurologist and tell him what you see on the EEG and then discuss it with him. He may have further testing to do before he comes back with a diagnosis. Or he is going over the other stests to varify the results of all the tests befire giving a diagnosis, But then I am not a doctor or a neurologist and I don't read EEG's, I generally let the person reading it to let the neurologist know what they have viewed and where the things were that were viewed. Then I let the neurologist tell me what it says and why he thinks like he does. But then I have been with the same group of neurologists since 1970 so I tend to trust them sincethey have gotten the number of my seizures down and the time in those seizures was also reduced. It is only with them that I can have a seizure now and nearly everybody arround would know nothing about it.
