First seizure?

Wed, 12/03/2014 - 17:24

Hi, I'm Taylor and I'm 16 years old, no previous history of seizures. I think I may (and this is a large maybe) have had a simple partial seizure. It happened a year ago and I haven't had any explanation for the strange episode until I recently came across the description of a simple partial seizure. However I can't think of anything that could have provoked it, I was completely healthy at the time and always have been healthy, I'm never dehydrated, I had no recent infections, I wasn't on any drugs (aside from Adderall Xr which I've been prescribed for ADHD, however I was not on it at the time of the "seizure") and had no recent head trauma or any evidence of other things that could have caused a seizure, hence why I'm concerned and unsure about what this was.

The event started with blurring of vision, slight disorientation, undefined visual hallucinations (black blob/silhouette in peripheral that disappeared when I turned to look at it). This progressed to further visual hallucinations (flashing spots and streaks), visual distortions (furniture seemed to bulge toward me, objects looked more distant than usual), fear/paranoia, and I was acting strange/not quite myself. I was fully conscious for the entire event.

The main symptoms (visual distortions/hallucinations) stopped after probably 2-3 minutes, and were followed by a period of confusion, disorientation, headache, and fatigue (especially after the headache subsided) that lasted around 10-15 minutes. When the headache subsided and the fatigue hit I fell asleep.

I've never had a seizure before and my symptoms were all over the place yet not better explained by anything else... should I talk to a doctor about this episode?

What you posted could have

What you posted could have been in several different types of seizures. A person can be healthy and not have had a seizure until one hits them.  Epipelsy in more common then Parkinsons, Alhx and strokes combined.  You also posted that you know of... SO have you looked into the 40+ different types of seizures there are?? What is posted about what is in a seizure is basic information. Not every person that has that seizure has all the same thing happening to them just like the length of a seizure. If you are worried about this issue then yes contact your doctor. If he thinks you need further information or wants it checked out he will then talk to a doctor or neurologist and then he may tell you to make an apointment or may make one for you. I hope this helps Joe
