EEGs normal or Abnormal?

Tue, 03/04/2008 - 20:50

Who has had clean or normal EEGs  the entire time they have had epilepsy?  And have had how many???  Who has not had normal EEGs?  How many??

Me, I have had 6 abnormal EEGs plus a 9 and a 6 day stay in 2 different EMUs.

 Those were also all abnormal.

Nothing with me has come out clean.

They have tried me on 10 other drugs besdies the 4 of them I am currently on.  I have been on Neurontin the entire 5 years and they have worked others in around it, but nothing worked.

Right now I am taking 3600 mgs of Neruotnin, and 300 mgs of Lamictal, 300 mgs of TOpamax, adn 2 mgs oof Klonopin.  Ativan if needed.

None of it workes well, so I got a VNS implant and it has done a VERY good job at keeping the szs in check.

But I still do not have normal EEGS.  They are still coming back abnormal.

But I guess that is the case with the syndrome i have.  Mixed Seizure Pattern.  A more rarer type of syndrome.

I've had three EEGs.  The first one came back abnormal even though I was on meds that were supposed to be controling them.

The other two came back normal though.  I was on Depakote for the second one and Lamictal for the third one.  I got the third one because I believed I was having myoclonic seizures (and still do) but it came back normal as well.  It might just be my neurologist though.  I don't think he's very good.  I don't think he believes me either.  That's why I'm seeing another one as well.

I am on my 3rd neurologist because the other 2 were so obnoxious thatI had to get out from under them.

The last one was a real nightmare.

The one I havenow is  the one I have been wth the longest, and he believes everythings and never doubts anything isay to him either.

85% of epielpstic people usually come back with NORMAL EEGs unless there is some inter-ictal brain activity going on between szs or an actual sz is caught on the EEG during the process.

I have constsn activity going in in my brain even during rest.

I don'tthink you should be seeing to docs at the sametime.  Ithink yo ushould let go ofthe one thatyou don't like andstick with the good one.  Because you will haveconfliciting information and iwill get confusiong for both you and the docs.
