EEG Results

Sat, 03/29/2014 - 10:32

Hi everyone,

I had my first neuro visit who did an EEG and MRI of the brain. MRI showed Chiari Malformation and the EEG came up as abnormal showing "right temporal regions are potentially epileptic". What exactly do those EEG results mean? I had a few episodes of febrile seizures when I was younger and was on phenobarbital for those. Up until I was recently diagnosed with Hashimotos I haven't had any trouble.

What does "right temporal regiona are potentially epileptic" mean?

Welcome The tests that were done are basically the main tests that are done by a neurologist to see what might be causeing seizures. The EEG is a machine that shows the electrical activity in the brain. The MRI can show the brain. What does "right temporal regiona are potentially epileptic" mean? <<< It means that is the area in your brain where the seizure activity is showing up. Knowing that the neurologists can look closer in that area to see if there is anything different or wrong in that area. I had tests done long before there was an MRI and the last tests done that week was another EEG. Out of the 15-20 EEG's I had taken it was the only EEG that had abnormalities (seizure activity). Knowing where to look they checked the neuro-angeogram (MRI of the 60's) ad they found scared brain tissue. So basically my epilepsy is caused by scared brain tissue which I got from a blow to the head between 6-8 yoa. If you have ever been knocked out from a blow to the head and that is the area then you could have had a hemmorage to the brain which causes scared brain tissue. WEver been in a car accident or had someone hit you hard or tumbled down stairs? The rung on my bunk bed ladder came out with me on it and whamI hit the top rail with my head and the bottom rail with my mouth. I do remember the fall since 4 teeth were knocked out. I finally put the dots together when Doc (my current neurologist ran tests to see if there were any other procedures that were being done that could get me seizure free. In the 60's it was before or after birth. I put the final dots in after those tests. UI hope this helps and if the neurologist has or is prescribing medications and you have questions on them post those questions here someone will answer them. I know I have been answering questions a lot Joe
