Do I have epilepsy?

Thu, 02/19/2015 - 11:23
About four years ago I had a seizure while riding a horse. I went to my doctor and after all tests, including an eeg, came back normal he said it was a one time thing. Just last night I had another seizure but a different kind. If all of the tests come back normal again will I just get diagnosed with epilepsy or will I get sent on my way? Thanks for any help!

If you had one before and it

If you had one before and it was your regular doctor then he was right in sending you away. Mainly because there are several things that can cause a seizure other them epilepsy. Now if yo ureally want to know if you have epilepsy then get your regular doctor to refer you to a neurologist who specializes in epilepsy. That neurologist will ask you questions and just answer them as best you can. He will also run tests on you. One will be an EEG another might be a MRI. There are many people whohad normal EEG's but they do have epilepsy. I had 20-25 all come back normal before a final test which was another EEG in which I fell asleep in. That EEG showed abnormalities comming from the left lobes of my brain. When they saw where those were comming rom the neurologists then went back to the neuro-angeogram (MRI of the 1960's) which showed normal earlier, After checking that area again they saw scared brain tissue. So just because your EEG came back normal it does not mean you might not have epilepsy See a specialist in epilepsy to make sure you don't. If you delay thand really have epilepsy your seizures will get stronger and more frequent.  I hope this helps and do come back and let us know how you are doing. Joe
