72 Impatient EEG

Thu, 06/26/2014 - 21:34
My Neurologist is sending me for an 72 Hour EEG due to the fact my seizures have gotten outta control lately and my medication of dilantin levels went from .8 to 47 where the target is 10 to 20. I was admitted for 17 days and taken off dilantin and switched to depakote. Had MRI CT many EEG all normal except foe the eeg which has beeb abnormal since birth but not due to seizures. EEG shows no seizures ever but yet I still have them and many witnessed by doctors and nurses etc. I'm just wondering if after tge 72 Hour EEG and no seizures where they will try to induce dows this mean I don't have seizures?

EEGs do not show all seizures, some are too deep.  There are limitations to EEGs.

except foe the eeg which has beeb abnormal since birth but not due to seizures  The 72 hor EEG will provide the information needed. Many peoples EEG show normal. I had 15-20 show normal. The last test in a battery I went thru showed seizure activity and by seeing that they looked closer at the area in the 1960"s version of the MRI. When they looked closer they saw scared brain tissue. That scar tissue is what caused my epilepsy. They may want you off medication so they can view a seizure to see which types you have. I do hope this helps and please come back and let us know how things are going Joe
