COLLEGE AND EPILEPSY

Sat, 01/06/2007 - 16:34
SO now im 18 and i have been accepted to 2 out of the 4 colleges that i applyed to. my parents said it was ok to apply anywhere just as long as it less than 5 hrs away so i did. and i made it into my top choice which is only 2 1/2 hrs away from me. the college is Saint Norbert College in WI and i live in a sub near chicago. but a few days ago i had a sezuire while i was in the car with my dad and it was my first one in months. of course my parents freaked out and now they want me to apply to a school in the city, which i had planed to but b/c i got into my first choice i didnt want to apply anywhere else. so anyway, after my sezire my parents have been going over board with protection and now i think they wont let me going to SNC, my first choice, and be happy because they are worried that something might happen while im at school. any suggestions from anyone who has gone through this or something like this?

Hey I live in AL. I am 19 and was going to start college after graduation. I had seizures as a child. They stopped when and then they started back when I was a jr. in high school. Of course my mother "frieks out" and won't let me go right now, also I can't drive right now. I lost two scholarships b/c I was unable to start school the first semester after graduation. I have not started school yet, b/c I am having all kind of tests to see if i am a TLE candidate for surgery. I hope I am. I do have a full time job that pays and gives free health insurance (hey I can't turn that down). When all this ends (if it does) I want to start school as a nurse. I am on Keppra and they offer scholarships (I think a one time $5000), so I will apply for it and see if I can get anything. Of course my mom will make me go to a community college. I know she wants to take care of me, but she is over-protective. That gets on my nerves!

I've been forced to go to a community college as well because of the szrs as well. Because i live on a small island in the Caribbean the nearest on campus option is on another island! My folks are totally against me leaving the island so young(18) and i kinda agree with them. In your case though, you may want to try changing your meds or maybe doing a surgery or something. Good Luck! Lynn
