Will have Left Temporal lobe Surgery on July 7

Mon, 06/19/2006 - 19:39
Yes they call today to schedule my surgery. My stomach sank as we talked. Quite a reality check when the phone call comes. I hope that the number 7 is luckey for me 7-7-06. Anyone that would like to tell me about their surgery experiences would be appreciated. The Dr said that I would be stayin the hospital for 3 or 4 days. I don't know how long it will be befor I will be able to return to work. I know that with the type of work that I do it will be a little longer. Vet Tech is a tuff job sometimes. So anyone who can give me some insight please write. Thank you Cheryl

I hope you have better luck than i did. They predicted 3-4 days in the hospital and it ended up over 2 weeks. I was in the intensive care unit 4 days based on what my wife told me. It is like there is a time i simply don't remember. The doctor said they removed part of the dead brain tissue, but could not do all of it. It was caused by lack of oxygen during grand mals they said. As a child i had spinal meningitis & hydro-encephylitis which caused the seizures and the tests prior to my left temporal lobectomy showed the right hemisphere of the brain functioning at 10%. I don't understand i how one can survive with less than half of a functioning brain. In spite of it i still work full time and teach Bible study and adult Sunday school. Until 3 weeks ago i was in front of the church with my wife and the pianist leading the singing. Last month i had a VNS installed and it was turned on for the first time about 10 days ago. When it fires my voice is really hoarse sounding and i am just totally winded for a short time. If it ends up controlling the seizures it will be worth it. I hope and pray that your lobectomy goes better than mine did. Karl W. Greulich
