Recovery time after surgery

Tue, 08/27/2013 - 09:53

I have temporal lobe epilepsy and I'm waiting on a date for surgery, specifically a lesionectomy in the left side of the brain to remove what the doctors believe is the cause of the seizures. What I'm wondering is: What is the recovery time like after epilepsy surgery? I've been told I'll be in intensive care for 6-10 days, and I can go home after that, but I'll be out of work for about 2-3 months, but beyond that I'm wondering how it goes? I've recently moved into an apartment with friends, I'm wondering if I'd need to move back home for a while after the surgery, that kind of thing. Anyone who's had surgery, I'd like to hear any stories. Thanks,

It's been six months since your surgery and I'm wondering how you're doing now. I am scheduled for a right temporal lobectomy on June 13th and found this site and am reading so now I am so frieghtened to go through it. I have migraines after each seizure and am used to having to be in the dark and wanting to pull my eyeballs out and squeeze my head. Have you gotten migraines like this and did your pain resemble that in any way? I've gone from ready lets go to wait to I'm at peace to now I'm afraid. Maybe I shouldn't have read so much.

Thank you for sharing your story.  My wife is about to have a right temporal lobectomy to remvoe the part of her brain that the epilepsy is stemming from.  We are extremly nervous, but I am going to be there for her 200% of the way!
