TLE - Is this what I have???

Mon, 07/10/2006 - 16:18
I beg everyone's pardon if this gets long, or is posted in the wrong place, but.., Periodically, over the last few years I've been experiencing some very peculiar 'feelings' and after the last episode, spent a great deal of time searching the world wide web for answers... These feelings start out as what is described in my reading as an 'aura,' a very strong feeling of 'deja vu' often accompanied by a very odd sense of smell and a deep rising feeling in the pit of my stomach (not unlike an overly anxious feeling). These are very subtle to begin with, but become quite a bit stronger before subsiding. During these episodes, I can hear conversation going on around me, but not comfortable enough to contribute as I'm not quite sure I understand the context of the conversation. These 'feelings' will last for only a couple minutes, but as they subside, I must stop and collect myself to recall what I was doing prior to their onset. These 'episode' only occur every two or three months (sometimes longer in between), but when they do, I can experience several throughout a 24-hour period (perhaps every few hours). Even when sleeping, I am acutely aware that they are happening. After they subside, I'm left with a very strange feeling of being disconnected (I'm sorry - this is quite hard to describe).., as if I'm remotely controlling my physical actions, including speech. This feeling will last for about another day. Please.., if anyone can offer some opinion as to what I'm experiencing, I would greatly appreciate your input.., your help. Thank you; SteveR

SteveR. I read your post. You are not the first person to post about this, and will not be the last either. All I can say is the above has been over the years what I have read about this on more than one occasion. It left me feeling with déja vu all over again, for sure. As the link says. In many ways, our usual, comfortable sense of familiar things and places may be disrupted by a simple partial seizure. Well-known places may suddenly look unfamiliar. On the other hand, new places and events may seem familiar or as if they've happened before, a feeling called déja vu! http://www.trileptal.com/info/understanding/simple-partial-seizures.jsp?usertrack.filter_applied=true&NovaId=7852773733815598163 People have had episodes were they feel as you have, and posted how the feeling affected their limbs, and comprehension. As in really affected their comprehension. The way it left them feeling when that happened sounded very unpleasant to say the least, and collecting their thoughts. Mine were I wondered if they had sought the right medical advice when this happened, and could it be down to their med regime or lifestyle. God knows, I'm no doc or expert, or a fool( I will leave that to the Beatles to sing about.) either. But I know when anything like this happens, and the alarm goes off , the best one to consult would be one that knows. Usually a medical practitioner. I know, I know, even they can be wrong, but there are tests they can do that save misunderstandings happening. So take along anything that might help, such as a record of events, along with what if anything observers (if there were any.)might have seen. You just never know if you do, it could shed some light on this for you, as you sound as if you need some. Have you had any lifestyle changes that could have brought this on, such as working long hours at the computer, or at the office. Hi Steve I have epilepsy since age 15 and only suffer from tonic clonic grand mal seizures every two years or so, and as such am not medicated. I do however have a host of other more frequent symptoms like deja vu, depression, jerking, eye rolling, a feeling of being spaced at varying times and with varying frequency. I always had the eye rolling but the grand mal started for no apparent reason at 15 though I did fall from a horse and was KOed so could be that. Good luck to you eruditio
