One seizure was enough

Mon, 07/03/2006 - 21:27
Hi, All, I'm new here--stopped by the site looking for info after having my first (and so far, knock on wood, only) seizure two weeks ago. I'm 28. It scared the daylights out of me and my family. My EEG and MRI were clear. Doctor said right now the best thing to do is try to stay healthy and wait and see what happens next--that if something's wrong, I'll have another. Could be just a fluke or a blood sugar thing, etc. I'm sure you folks know the possibilities better than I. I would like to perhaps get a second opinion (did not love neurologist #1) and keep gathering information. Anybody else had just one? Or have any advice for me in this uncertain time?? Thanks for providing this place for support and info, y'all...I appreciate it. --w.e.

Yes I would like you to know about my siezure episodes. I had strept throat and fever witch resulted in a siezure on two maybee three times. Munson hospital put me through all kinds of tests because of the siezure they could find nothing wrong. I know it was because of fever. Wath out for doctors who want to bleed your bank account dry.

I had a seizure when I was 27 and took medication for 1 year after.  I thought it was just a fluke and quit taking the meds. but 10 years later, I had another seizure.  I did have warning signs (aura) before the 2nd seizure took place.  I really did not recognize the signs though because it had been such a long time.  Now - I am fully medicated and I really feel a difference since taking the medication.

I realize a lot of these

I realize a lot of these comments are pretty old, and hopefully I can get a response back. My daughter is 11yrs old and had a seizure about 3 weeks ago, I've noticed a pattern with a lot of people saying how they experienced their first seizure after having strep throat. My daughter was sick and was diagnosed with strep throat and put on stronger antibiotics due to her history with tonsil infections, while she was on them she looked a lot sicker and was complaining a lot of how she didn't feel right 6 days in taking antibiotics. That night she was up pretty late and couldn't fall asleep so I laid on the couch with her, in less then a minute I felt her leg tense up really hard and I reached up to touch her back which also was really hard, I noticed her teeth where clenched together and she began to have a seizure I yelled for my husband who ran downstairs grabbed her (thought she was choking) and was clueless on what to do. I called 911 as soon as ambulance arrived she was coming out of it and didn't know what was going on! She was rushed to hospital where blood work was done and came back normal we got sent back home and where instructed to make appointment with neuro. She just had test(EEG) done this past week and was told results where abnormal (that's it) no explanation of why they where or what caused this just THEY'RE ABNORMAL and we are starting her on small dose of Keppra and we'll see you back in 3 months! I attended appointment alone, so when I ran this by my husband first response was she will NOT go on meds and we will get second opinion! We decided to do some research before jumping into anything and so far I am realizing a lot of kids that are antibiotics due to strep have suffer a seizure, is there anyone else with a similar situation?-Vanessa
