New with LOTS of Stress!

Tue, 08/29/2006 - 10:55
Hello all! I am new to this website. I have had seizures since I was 12 and I am now 25. My nuero. thought I had one type of E and after being 5 yrs seizure free tried weaning me off meds. I had been on Depakote ER 500mg BID since they started. By the time I was completely off the weaning process i had a seizure! (Ughh) They put me on Dilantin because they said it was a better med to be on if I planned on getting pregnant. I am taking 200mg BID and had another seizure 3 days ago. Very odd to me! My seizures have always been first thing in the morning after I wake up, this one was in the middle of the night! I had been sleeping 45 min and got up to use the bathroom. By the time I got back in bed in started. I don't know why....I wish I did! I am also in the process of planning my wedding, preparing for Breast Aug. surgery in 2 wks, and my job can be pretty stressful as well. All this on top of everyday worries! I just needed to vent, if anyone out there can relate please drop me a line! thanks!

Hi Kristen, I had trouble with the depakote too, in that there was some rare and dangerous effect on my blood (I think it was highly decreased wbc). Up until that point, every time I saw my neuro he'd bug me about whether I was yet planning on pregnancy. We were waiting awhile, and planned on switching meds before that point anyway, so it was pretty annoying! LOL Anyway..I was switched onto phenobarbital when that trouble with the depakote occurred. I was on 90 mg's, at first and did pretty well until I had Kyra. The day after my c-section, I had 2 sz's (one of which secondairly-generalized) in the hospital. I then was tied to the bed! A pretty horrible experience :( I was knocked up to 120 mg's post-partum, and did fine. I did have breakthrough sz's from lack of sleep and stress, but I did okay for the most part. When pregnant with Lena, in my first trimester, my sz's increased big time. I was having simple partials and complex partials constantly, and the phenobarbital had to go up tp 180 mg's. My neuro would have been happier with it at 210, but I knew that I couldn't handle the major sleepiness (along with being a SAHM and pregnant) so I stayed at 180. I made certain that EVERYONE involved knew of the past, so those sz's wouldn't occur again. I was pretty worried! My anestesiologist (sp?) went over everything with me in depth, in order to control pain & sz's...as he played a huge part. My anestesiologist in the first didn't go over things with me, so maybe that was it?? I don't know. I've got a whole saga, so I hope that I didn't bore you! LOL I wish you the very best with your upcoming wedding and good sz control! Take care :) Heather
