New here - ? re: aurus, deja vu and epilepsy

Well I have scheduled my first appointment with a neurologist in three weeks. For the past three or four years I have had these deja vu auru experiences where I feel totally out of body, I can't get my words out and I can't understand when other people are speaking. This is accompanied by a weird taste in my mouth, and I tend to smack my lips. Well two nights ago I woke up and my head was kind of jerking from left to right and I felt drool coming out of my mouth, but I couldn't control it. It was bizarre, and needless to say I was absolutely scared. Can someone give me some insight on what to expect during a first visit with a neurologist? Also I have been taking the anti-depressant zoloft since 2003. I have read that there can be seizure like side affects when taking this medication. Sorry for the long post, but I am new here and very scared of what is happening to me. :(

Hi, many of the symptoms you describe can be signs of seizures. I would advise that you write down everything you can possibly remember about these episodes - ---What where you doing before they happened ---What happened, body movements, everything ---what happened afterwards, did it take long to recover ---Where were you when happened If there is anybody that has seen you have these episodes, try to get them to go with you to the doctor. I would also recommend that you read as much as possible prior to going to the neuro, so you understand the terminology and can ask for clarification when needed. A good start is at http://www.epilepsy.com/epilepsy/main_epilepsy.html There is lots of good information that should give you a start questions to ask. Some of them may have to wait until testing is done, but it's a great place to go to begin to understand. It may also point out other things that are happening to you that you don't realize could be seizure related.
