new and scared-questions

hi there. I am 35 and just had a series of grand mal seizures last Sunday 4-5 of them the last of which I stopped breathing on and turned blue. luckily I was in the ER at the time and they gave me something in my IV to pull me out. I have no idea what is going on and why this is happening... at this age as well. They said the MRI, CT, and EEG came back normal... what could this be? do I have epilepsy? I am on Keppra now and unable to drive. I am so confused and scared of it happening again, especially w/ my 5 year old home alone w/ me to see it. any advice would be appreciated as I am a wreck about this. I also bit my bottom lip during the seizures and still after a week have no feeling in it - is this normal? thanks in advance for any help or advice I remember nothing about any of them - my hubby saw them all and is completely freaked out about it and why it has started to happen. thanks shari

reluctant, Do you have a neurologist for a doctor who is working on your seizures? My suggestion would be to try and find an Epitologist, who specializes in only Epilepsy. I found one here in Maine from a woman on the other epilepsy website, www.epilepsyfoundation.com She lives here in Maine and told me of this lady and I got an appointment with her and she has me having all sorts of test. If your neurologist doesn't know what is happening, maybe you should look for someone else. There is many people on the other epilepsy site. I think there are more forums and the information can be found easier then on here. The people tend to check in about everyday and you will get much more response to your questions there for some reason. Come visit and check in "Living well with Epilepsy" and also "the lounge" is a good room too. I visit both here and there. There is much support in both places. Hope you get the answers you need. Shari, I think it would be a good place for you to check out too. There is alot of Epilepsy news on the website there too. They have a lot of issues on the site that you can find alot about epilepsy. You could probably find lots of answers to what you both are looking for. Hope this help you both and keep ya chins up. Things will get better. Hope to see ya around here more. Cathy

Don't stress out too much as I have learned that the best way to deal with this is to be armed with as much info as possible. I too don't drive in fact I have never driven. The tests don't always come back abnormal the first time. I have a friend that wasn't diagnosed until she was 32 and there is no reason that they can find so far. If you have had 2 or more seizures you are considered to have epilepsy. I have bitten my tongue my lip and my cheek but I might talk to your doctor if there is still no feeling. You may have temporarily damaged a nerve but I would still get it checked out if you are concered. It is completley normal to not remember anything about the seizures. It will all usually be a blurr, is there a support group in your area that you could go to? I would highly recommend this and take your husband because he also needs someone to talk to. If you have any questions or would just like to chat email me at hoverton44@yahoo.com I wish you the best of luck Heather "I can be changed by what happens to me. But I refuse to be reduced by it." Hi Shari, I just wanted to say dont let this get you down. I always try to think of something positive to cheer me up. And trust me, visiting this site and talking to people sure helps. I have grand mals myself and when I wake up I dont remember anything and I have a headache as well as a bitten tounge. Sometimes I feel stress brings it on. Like when there's to much on your mind or your trying to do 10 things at once. I myself have just switched to taking Keppra and have found that it works much better for me than when I was on Dilantin. As far as your husband goes I hope he becomes a little more understanding but I do feel that it's a normal reaction for most people. All the best Jerry
