Feeling frustrated- but still have hope!

Hello out there! I am a newlywed, with a stepson of 9 yrs. old that has been diagnosed with epilepsy since he was 4 years old. He had his first seizure, a grand mal, exactly one hour after his DPT immunization. Hmmmmm......does anyone think there's any correlation there? The doctors say no.....but.....well? We have joint custody of our boy....who has totally stolen my heart and soul! He's so funny and extremely loving. A couple of days after Thanksgiving, he had 6 seizures during the night....from the hours of 10:30 pm to 6:30am. We sleep right next to his bed, so that we can hear him and get to him easily. The seizures were bad, two of the first were within 20 minutes of each other. I racked my brains trying to think of what we had done differently the day before the attacks, and the only thing that came to mind was that we had ordered Chinese take-out.....and he had eaten more than I had ever seen him eat before! He's had chinese food all of his life....even before the seizures....but this one thing really stood out in my mind. MSG!!!! I've done research on the net......and there are alot of very interesting things! His mother and father have tried the Ketogenic Diet with him before....but with no results. Also, he has been on every different type of medication, and even had the VNS operation. Nothing seems to help. Since my own research on the net....we've all had him on a NO MSG and NO ASPARTAME diet. (That's EXTREMELY HARD TO DO, since everything seems to contain these ingredients!).....and after his first week on this totally organic diet....he had 2 drop seizures while awake yesterday, and 2 more in his sleep. UUUUGGGGGHHH! I WILL NOT give up hope, however, since the Dr.'s never have mentioned this MSG or Aspartame thing......I'm curious to know if anyone else out there has experienced or heard of anything along these lines? Thanks!

I have seizures and my neurolgist told me to stick to an ALL NATURAL NO PRESERVATIVE DIET. On Mother's Day I ate my Mom's dressing without knowing it had came from a box. Shortly later I was having cluster seizures. My son, who is also allergic to MSG reacted but not in this manner but I could not help him. Later, he was able to piece together for me what had happened to me because of what had happened to him. Thanks to the m-insane. I too have learned this from experience. I stay clear of potato chips, crackers, etc. that are seasoned. Thanks for the website info. Also watch out for artificial sweetners.
