Deja vu/panic attacks - Very tired of being undiagnosed

Thu, 11/01/2012 - 18:14
Hi all, I'm very new to thinking that I possibly have simple partial seizures, however after looking through many posts here, it could possibly explain my symptoms. Over the last few months I have started having these very brief episodes of intense deja vu/flashbacks, and have realised that they mostly revolve around dreams I've had. I usually have the worst ones in the morning, and lead to what I thought was a panic attack. Then, through the rest of the day, I have extremely brief (less than half a second) deja vu flashes, that actually feel like my brain jolts somehow. I initially thought there was something wrong with my heart (as the panic attacks initially started with severe heart palpitations), however these have stopped, and after doing an ECG, EEG, and a holter test, nothing wrong at all. I'm getting to the point where I am so over the whole thing and starting to think that I'm losing my mind, and also that this will never stop. Does anyone have a similar thing happening, particularly with the brain 'jolts'? Any help would be really appreciated, I don't know how much longer I can keep feeling like I'm losing the plot! Thanks in advance, Gemma

I felt all of these symptoms

Submitted by Funyumz on Thu, 2019-05-09 - 18:38
I felt all of these symptoms mentioned here and almost a month ago, I was doing some errands with a family member and I felt as if my face was getting tight and I immediately fainted right after, from what I was told, I had a seizure that lasted for a minute. It sorta scares me a bit since I honestly don't know if it was a one-time thing or not. I am currently waiting for an appointment with a neurologist. I'll write back as soon as I can.

Yes!!! In fact I just had an episode about 20 minutes ago. Please go see a neurologist.  I had been dealing with this deja vu dream crap for the last 8 years or so. My doctors kept trying to put me back on xanax and I would just cry because none of the medical professionals were listening to me. They would hear the words "impending doom" and just assume I was having panic attacks.  I have had panic attacks since I was 5 years old and now I'm turning 38 next month, so I'm sure you could imagine my frustration. So after years of reading online forums and anything I could get my hands on I camebto the realization that I most definitely have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy.  I finally saw a second neurologist in Oregon after moving up from Arizona and she validated me 100% She said it sounded like I most definitely have Temporal Lobe Epilepsy and started me on a medication immediately! I forgot to mention that this is a progressive disorder. Mine advance to grand mals!! Scary ones where I went back to a child like state with mass confusion then after several hours having no memory of the entire episode,  the previous few hours of my life were erased. After a couple of days I started having memories of those few hours but from outside... This is really hard to explain, Im sure I sound totally nuts but it was like I was standing outside watching it all happen through the window. I have such clear memories of it happening but from totally out of my body.. After that episode I found a neurologist right away. I had read that it could progress but I assumed it would take quite a bit longer. So she started me out on a titration of Lamotrigine.  . I titrated from 25 mgs to 200 mgs a day. I felt terrible going through that 3 month cycle. The medication made me manic and caused a great amount of anxiety to the point of being medicated for that for 2 weeks.... but I didnt have any episodes that while time, not one split second of that impending doom, deja vu terror! So I kept on going, white knuckled it through until my mind and body were adjusted to the medication. That was about 6 months ago and only recently have I had any activity. Today amd once about 2 weeks ago. No convulsing and that is pretty commin apparently.  Im on an anti consultant so I shouldnt have a grand mal but these little break through temporal lobe episodes arent fun at all. I get that Deja Vu but it is not an "I've been here before" type of feeling, its like I've dreamed about this exact moment, its the horrible impending doom feeling that comes along with it just like a panic attack but different. Then I get violently ill and vomit followed by the feeling of weakness, no energy and a gnarly headache. It puts me out the entire day. I know this is really long but I hope it helps someone during the battle of finding out what is going on in our brains!! Good luck guys

Google a partial seizure in your temporal lobe. If that sounds like what you are experiencing; go to your doctor, seeking a referral for a neurology appointment. Give them your symptoms and discuss the possibility of it being a partial seizure in your temporal lobe.
