Connection between seizures and mental illness

Wed, 03/24/2010 - 20:42
I am a 43 year old female.  Married with children and work a full-time job.  My first "recorded" seizure happened about two years ago. Since then I've had 4+ tonic clonic seizures. I've also been diagosed with ADHD, chronic depression, & Bipolar Disorder. Since I've been reading & investigating these seizures, symptoms and warnings I'm noticing a lot of things that resemble the afore mentioned mental diagnosis.  Could it be that I've been misdiagnosed all along?  I'm still trying to make some kind of sense of everything I've been going through.  I should mention, I do not have any medical insurance and constant visits to the doctor's office isnt possible right now. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I had seizure disorder that started when I was 17, I’m now 32. I took medicines for over more that 9 years but all efforts to cure it failed. I was so very lucky that my mother found a spiritual Priest from Shango Temple. He did some spiritual cleansing and prayers for me in his temple. As i speak to you righ now i'm healed, its been 5 years ago since i last seen the attack. The doctors have carried out several test and they confirmed that there is no trace of epilepsy and grand mal seizures. I will like you to meet this Powerful healer, his email: shangosolutiontemple @ yahoo . com

Feather,I realize this is an old thread, but I am here for the first time and my wife has similar issues as you are describing. Anger and rage are a big problem for us. She has also been dealing with depression since her teens at least. She started to have seizures about 3-4 years ago, she is now 33 years old. She has met a lot of doctors but no one can say for sure what the seizures are. I am afraid there are other mental factors involved. We have really always been concern about physical attributes contributing to the issues but I am now leaning more toward there being a mental component involved. Did you ever get any closer to the root of your issues? Thanks for any input you may have.

My son is 35 , it took him

My son is 35 , it took him many times but he finally has his disability and medicaid.  He has seizures and psychosis.  It is hard to get doctors to listen.  They think since they are doctors and I am not I must not know what I am talking about.  He has been diagnosed with nearly every mental health issue known to man form adhd, odd, ocd, bi bolar, borderline personality disorder, schizophrenia and finally schizo-affective disorder.  It is none of those things.  He is among the small minority that has psychosis after seizures. Particularly cluster seizures.  Hang in there. Get as much knowledge as you can gather.  Never stop researching and don't let the doctors b.s you.  The Disability will come, hang in there and keep appealing till you get it.  Good luck.
