Anyone know about an arachnid cyst?

Wed, 03/22/2006 - 13:27
Just had an mri done today and my doctor pointed out a large white mass (size of a golf ball) in the back of my brain. I believe he said it may have happened as a child and is spinal fluid that dripped into my brain. Where more brain matter should be, is instead replaced by this cyst. Anyway, he completely downplayed the cyst, but every post I read and every comment I see mentions surgery and anything but a "no big deal" attitude. He said I have ideopathic epilepsy (which he said is a fancy way of saying they have no idea why I have seizures). Anyone else experience an arachnid cyst?

Hey Sol, An MRI or CT scan would reveal cyst, one done with and without contrast. Jaz's cyst may be operable but if it isn't causing any harm than the risk of surgery is greater than the risk of leaving it alone. An arachnid cyst is very close to a highly vascular portion of the brain, if this area is at all endangered than you run the risk of hemorhage and stroke, not to mention the brain swelling that already accompanies brain surgery. The reason for surgery on a brain cyst is if it is growing and compromising brain pressures and function. It doesn't sound like Jaz's cyst is growing, they will certainly monitor it's size and the symptoms Jaz is having. Hope this helps.
