At the moment he is on keppra and tegretol retard. The phenytoin was been withdrawn.

I have been taking phenytoin for about 20 years and have subsequently developed a number of conditions due to being prescribed a dose far higher than what I have eventually discovered to be the maximum safe dosage. My kidneys have been damaged, resulting in a a potential transplant, my eyesight has been affected so I have had to relinquish my driving license andnow being registered blind, something which has also affected my ability to work and take part in and enjoy a number of activities that I did before, and I also have a very low sperm count which, having made various enquiries, I can only relate to the excessive amounts of phenytoin that I had been taking. Although it is a very effective drug I would be cautious about recommending it to people. Having kidney damage, loss of sight and being infertile by the age of 34 is enough to make me doubt its suitability as an anti-epilepsy drug treatment.

Hi Anie,  just noticed this while checking out the mens site and wanted to chip in.  I know I'm late but here goes.

Tegretol and phenytoin for past 27 years or close to.  No problems with sperm at all.  However the best advice is read the instructions and talk to the doc.

Don't know if this helps.
