Trileptal.. is it too new for everyone?? Haven't read it from anyone!

Oxcarbazepine.. FDA app. in 2000, a baby in it's own right. I did a drug study with oxcarbamazepine in 1996, and 4 years later (ignoring meds those years) I find the approved version, Trileptal. I was so excited, cuz I didn't have any side effects during that study, and with Tegratol I had no reasoning skills, and I'm allergic to Dilantin! Trileptal is wonderful for me, and I'm just wondering if anyone else has tried this one!!??

I have taken Trileptal since 03/04 and with each month that passes my side effects worsen. I loved it in the beginning but now it causes me to have hyper reactions to every medication I take and also bug bites, even pet fur all of which I have NEVER had problems with. It has also worsened my seizures at night (a side effect they don't mention either). My neuro has tried to add or switch it several times, but the trileptal causes the new meds to worsen my siezures (I had a 30 minute partial with one). I get anxious "auras" and muscle spasms in my stomach and esophagus. It is the only med I am on. A good side effect... my hair grows beautifully! I am happy it has worked so wonderful for all of you and hope it continues to. A warning though, I read in another forum from several other people who were on it and their seizures became worse or changed to a worse type of seizure so be aware of this side effect it is not one that happens immediately but over time. I have to take the meds because of an inoperable brain tumor so I am having to have 24 hr observation while I discontinue this med completely so I can start a new one. Be healthy & happy living each day as it arrives!! :)

I take Trileptal for 9 years. I had a serious problem at 2004 when Trileptal was changed. I am sure that you all know that. But now I am used to it again. I know that issue with sodium. I had never any problem, but everyone must have a blood test every 6 months. Also there is a change at 600mg pills. They change their color to pink!!! I am very pleased with Trileptal and also I am pleased that I found people here taking the same pill with me. I hope everyone be well and strong! Andreas

I have temporal Lobe seizures & supposedly Trileptal is good for these seizures. I just started titrating up on Trileptal as I'm coming off of Lamictal. My neuro said that it might not have as many side effects for me as the Lamictal . . . blurred vision, speech defects, muscle spasms. I'll let you know in a couple of weeks after I'm off the Lamictal & on the Trileptal what happens. I'm also slowly eliminating my anxiety medicine (Effexor XR) in case it is lowering my seizure threshold. Also getting another MRI and sleep eeg to check the structural factors. Stay tuned.
