Topamax Tingling Side Effect?

Sat, 02/13/2010 - 13:49
Hello All, I just started a low dose of the generic form of Topamax- topiramate, about a week ago. I have been on Keppra for over a year, and have multiple simple partials daily and the occasional tonic-clonic. I tried Tegretol and had a bad reaction to it, so the Dr. decided to try Topamax. I am still taking 4000 mgs of Keppra daily, and currently only taking 50mg of Topamax. I have already noticed an effect on my seizures- instead of having two or three simple partials I'm having one or two, and this is only after a week. However, I have also noticed an odd sensation in my feet sometimes, a sort of tingling. At first I thought that my feet had fallen asleep and were waking up, but then I realized that I wasn't in the kind of position that would lead to that sort of thing, so I'm wondering if maybe this could be some sort of side-effect from the new medication. It's not constant, and I haven't really been able to see if it's related to when I'm doing anything or sitting in any position or anything like that, but periodically for the last 2 days I've noticed the occasional tingly feeling in my feet lasting for as long as 10 minutes. It's not painful, but it is puzzling, and before I go bothering my neurologist again, I figured I'd ask around here and see if anyone else has had anything similar. Is this a reaction or side effect of the Topamax, or the Topamax/Keppra combination? Is it worth calling my Doctor? Thanks!

I started topamax 100 mg 2x a day for widespread seizure disorder when I was 16 and my hands and feet have tingled since. It comes and goes but it's very annoying.  I've learned to cope with it after a failed venture with keppra and an even worse one with depakote and the moderated appetite ain't too bad as opposed to the Grand mals. I wish everyone luck with these things I wouldn't wish them on my worse enemy

Hi everyone I have been experiencing the same issues as well.  Loss of appetite, cloudy memory, nausea, aggression, numbness and tingling in hands and feet it's definitely from the topirimate.  I'm thinking about getting off due to these bad side effects :(

My 12 year old son Jake began

My 12 year old son Jake began severe migraines two years ago when he was in 5th grade. He missed a lot of school at the end of the year until he got on topomax 50 milligrams. By November of the following school year, Jake was feeling numbness in both legs and arms, not all at the same time or daily, thank goodness, but the complete arm or leg every week and it would last the whole day when it happened. He told me sitting in his chair at school would cause his legs to go numb or writing with his arm would make his arm go numb. And he also was acting more forgetful, as in not telling me when it happened, until days or even weeks later!? How can you forget something like that? I don't get that part. My son is a bright kid and autistic. He never forgets. We just left his neurologist today and he is blaming the topomax, but what about the memory. Has anyone dealt with that issue and also the numbness in the entire leg or entire arm like Jake that switches randomly?
