Tired all the time

Tue, 06/27/2006 - 15:38
I had my last seizure June 1st. My neuro raised my topamax to 200mg which I take at bedtime. I also take Lamictal 100 mg twice a day. Since he increased my topamax I feel so drained and tired. I feel like I can't get enough sleep and I don't have the energy to do anything. I have to make myself get up and do my regular everyday chores. I have been reading about other peoples dosages on other meds and they seem alot higher. Is this a common reaction to Lamictal and Topamax? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Mary

HI! I'm currently on Topamax as well. ( I just posted the When do you take topamax question). I feel the same way , I wake up in the morning, all fine and awake, ready to go. About half hour after I get ready for my day I take my meds and I'm groggy, tired and drained. My neuro PROMISED Me this was better then Dilantin five months ago,"a better med for long term use with little side effects..." and I feel like I'm still waiting for it to "kick" in. I've been on all different levels of dosages... Yes its thankfully keeping the seizures away, but dealing with side effects has been a nightmare. Hang in there, and I've learned the hard way, don't be afraid to question your doctor if you need some adjustments.

I don't know about the Lamictal, but I do know that Topamax can drain your energy especially at first. I found out that the more you force yourself to do while you are on Topamax, the more energy you will have. The first few months I was on it I was drained, and I didn't do ANYTHING. Now I do something, even if it is an activity that only takes a few minutes and I find I have more energy just by doing something. This is a drug that can take several months to get used to, so hang in there!!!!!
