switching from Dilantin to Lacmital

I had epilepsy and the doctors have me on Dilantin but because of my mood disorder they want me to switch from Dilantin to Lamictal . I've been blessed by not having any grand mal seizures in the last 2 years so I'm afraid come back gain.Has anyone had bad experience or good experience by switching from Dilantin to Lacmital?

Hi Perla78,
I'm a big fan of Lamictal. I was on Dilantin for while and was slowly weaned off of it last year while I was on Lamictal. The main reason being that my husband and I were planning on starting a family and my neurologist found that Lamictal was safer for me and the baby. I am only on Lamictal now and it's going great. I'm healthy and the baby is healthy. My due date is June 14th! I hope you do well on it as I have. If you want to talk to me further, send me an email and I'll get back to you as soon as I can.

I am just now switching from Dilantin to Lamictal. I just posted a thread asking for input on this, and ran across yours. How has the switch been going for you? Are you more tired because of both meds in your system- I am !!

I recently (Jan) was switching from Tegretol & Dilantin to Lamatil and suffer a severe seizure - totaled my 4th car. Wasn't hurt this time, but still watch your step. I was decreasing 200 mg. tegretol and 150 mg Dilantin & increasing Lamictal 100mg every 2 days. I was right in the middle when this seizure happened. I think the problem was that I didn't have enough of any medications in my system which cause this seizure. Prior to this my seizures were mostly auras with 5 - 6 complex partial seizures a year. I was taking 400 mg Tegretol & 300 mg Dilatin switched over to 400mg Lamictal which I couldn't tolerate so reduce to 300 mg Lamictal & added 500 mg Depakoe. I have had 1 seizure with this comb. Main side effect is I have lost over 50% of my hair, from the Depakote (I think) Susieq
