Shivers and Epilepsy

Wed, 08/13/2008 - 02:05
Hello Everyone,        I was diagnosed with epilepsy 6 yrs ago. My neurologist suspects it is Juvenile Myoclonic Epilepsy. In the last couple of years, I have had these weird I would describe them as "shivers". First of all so far I have only had tonic clonic seizures and they have all been in my sleep. I am taking 1,000 mg of Epival and 900 mg of Trileptal daily. But for the last 2 yrs or so I have been getting these shivers that start in my lower back and then make their way up to my head then my head and shoulders shake pretty hard. Is this because of my epilepsy or is it just something completely unrelated? Please let me know if anyone else has experienced these "shivers".                                        Sincerely,                                                             Andrew T

My husband was diagnosed with

My husband was diagnosed with epilepsy in his teenage years. He used to suffer from Grand mall seizures. That went away and now 30 years later, he is having occasional tremors that begin in his hands and feet. Could this be related?

Whatever this is, I have

Whatever this is, I have suffered from it for 18 years. The first time, I was by the beach on a warm evening. A breeze blew on me and I collapsed. I convulsed so hard that I bulged a disc for life and tore my lats. I have experienced many episodes since that time. I always remain aware of what is happening. During two episodes, I have managed to flop myself sideways into a bathtub and claw the shower dial to the hottest setting, while fully clothed. The need for heat during these episodes is extreme. In the early years, I could tell for about 0.5-2.0 seconds that I was about to have convulsions, because after feeling a chill, I would suddenly become quite depressed. So, there's a neurotransmitter involved. During severe episodes, while I convulse on the floor or ground,  my palms burn and I am not in control of my own breath. My chest heaves, locomotive style. However, symptoms can be much more mild. If a chill catches me just right, I might experience mild shaking of the limbs (similar to shivering), muscle fasciculations, or full on convulsions. If anyone who has experienced these episodes sees this, please consider spending a few moments to answer these questions?1. When you have these convulsions, do your palms burn?2. Between feeling the chill and beginning to convulse, do you experience a drastic change in mood?3. While convulsing, are you in control of your own breathing?4. Are you conscious and aware the entire time? Thanks.

Hi ok not quite same I guess but I have a kitten with epilepsy so I’m new to dealing with this but he started having massive seizures 12 times or more a day, he has meds now and doesn’t get them as often but lately he too has been getting shivers. I wrap him in a blanket where he falls asleep and then it stops eventually
