Keppra and sleep

Sun, 01/08/2006 - 17:38
Hi all. I was wondering if anyone else takes Keppra and has a hard time sleeping. I was just taken off Epival and changed to Keppra along with my Lamictal.Where the Epival was allways making me incredibly tired now I'm awake all night and sleep only a few hours during morn. I have been feeling realy good and happy since the change, so that is a definate bonus.I wonder though if the lack of sleep is from the Keppra and if it could make seizures worse. Any input would be appreciated. Thank you. Smiles and have a good day Colina

Dear New Beginnings. Sleeples nights arrrgh! I learned that there seemed to be no way to stop this problem, but after about 4 weeks I started getting sleep again. It's great I get 7-8 hours since the adjustment, I used to sleep 10-12 a night plus a day nap on my other meds. I hope this happens for you aswell. Smiles to you and take care.

Trouble sleeping can be problem for many. Sometimes it's hard to tell if the sleep trouble is from one drug being taken away, the addition of a new drug, or a combination of 2 drugs together. Some people have reported problems with sleep on Keppra, either being too tired or trouble sleeping. Same has been heard with Lamictal. Testing this in large numbers of people is hard since there can be many causes of sleep troubles. Sometimes the sleep problems go away on their own or adjusting the times of when medicine is taken may help. Talking to doctor about what's happening is important for anyone with sleep troubles, and before making changes on your own.
