Keppra

So, after having my first grand-mal back in June I was put on Neurontin. But I was still having, motor and focal seizures, so i was sent to a neurologist in germany (i am overseas) to see if she thought i had epilepsy or i was just crazy. She wrote down complex partial epilepsy and prescribed me Keppra. Does this sound normal? I have been on the keppra and ok i guess but i am extremeley exhausted almost always!

I started to have my first seizure at the age of 19. I've tried many medication and I overwent the surgery which unfortunately didn't help. When I started Keppra a year after the operation, it helped me a lot and now I really think that for some epileptic people with complex partial epilepsy like me and you, Katheren, it helps. Of course, I'm not taking only Keppra (2500 mg per day) but I'm also taking a small amount of Lamictal and Rivotril. I must say that Keppra often makes me feel exhausted but I try to push myself to reach my everyday target. It's difficult and . . . exhausting but at least I don't have bad seizures. Wish you all the luck with Keppra and let's hope that your body will accept this medication. It takes time, hope and strength to go on with your life. Edy

Hello, this is my first time here. I haven't had a seizure for at least 15 to 18 years but have been on Dilantin 300 mg a day and Phenobarbitol 60 mg twice a day for the last 35 years. Tried going off these drugs because of the side effects for about 3 months. First new drug Dr put me on was Trileptal could not handle the side effects and then he gave me Keppra I was a walking Zombie. Went back to Dilantin and Phenobarbitol but not happy with the side effects of the Dilantin. Any comments or help?????????????

Side Effects

Susan, When you were taking Dilantin and phenobarbital, were you having any side effects? Because if you were not having any side effects or other difficulties while being on those medications, plus not having any seizures for at least 15 to 18 years, then you may need to go back to those two medications and stay with them from here on. Another possibility, which you will have to work out with your doctor, and that is to see if there are other medications which might be helpful with controlling your seizures, without any troubling side effects. Hope this helps ya, Bruce (link guy)
