Don't give Depakote to your girls!

Wed, 10/11/2006 - 22:07
My 8 year old daughter has just been diagnosed with PCOS (Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome), which causes diabetes, cardiovascular problems, infertility, acne and more. And the likely culprit -- DEPAKOTE. Be warned, do some research, speak to your doctor, don't risk your daughter's future.

I feel so bad for you and your daughter. I have PCOS, completely unrelated to seizure meds. I was diagnosed in 2001, at the age of 21, after several years of trying to figure out WHAT was wrong with me. It is a struggle to say the least. I didn't begin seizure meds until 2006. Will stopping the Depakote reverse the effects? When I told my neuro that I had PCOS, he actually said, "Well, we will make sure to never put you on Depakote then." Glad to know that he at least is familiar! If you need any info or help with PCOS, feel free to ask me. I would recommend that you check out www.soulcysters.com They have some great PCOS information, and they also have message boards where you can find out just about everything about every single aspect of PCOS. GOOD LUCK to you and your daughter!
