Does Lamictal and Keppra cause you sun burn easily?

Tue, 04/22/2008 - 18:49

I layed out by the pool the other day for about three or four hours. When I got inside, I noticed that I was sun burned very bad. I had blisters that popped up because of the severity of the burn. Of course, I am VERY sore. Before I started Keppra and Lamictal, I did not burn very easily. I was just curious if anyone knows if Lamictal and Keppra are meds that can make you sensitive to sun light. I am always out in the sun, and I know that excessive sun light can cause cancers like melanoma, basal cell carcinoma, and squamous cell carcinoma. The oncologist in my office chewed me out because my burn looked so bad. Anyways, if anyone can help me, I will greatly appreciate it.  Thanks!

I just came back from the doctor and was told that Keppra causes photosensitivity. I get blotchy redness on my thighs when they get hot (even when I'm wearing pants).

Its unusual for me to burn in  the  Sun and  although I have done in the past but not badly, I haven't Sun bathed in earnest for a few years, bit I'm off sick from work at the moment and decided as I live in Britain and you have to make the most of any Sun here that when the sun came out I would sit in my garden and enjoy it, it was only 19 degrees with  wind and when it became cloudy which was often  it became cold, so at times I had a blanket on me, I was out in the garden for approx 2 hours and yet later on in evening I realised I was burnt ! On the parts I had exposed  my skin to the run, yes I'm on 500mg keppra twice daily ! Coincidence!? I think not!
