Amitriptyline

Mon, 06/22/2015 - 15:03

Hi all

Just wanted to pick your brains on something please.

I've been seizure free for over 5 years and take 2500mg of Keppra per day to control it.

I've recently been suffering from numbness/nerve problems in my right hand, and my Doctor sent me for tests (EMG) at the hospital and I'm still awaiting the results, the probably cause according to the DR and the specialist is Carpal Tunnel syndrome.

Anyway as an initial measure my DR prescribed me 'Amitriptyline' to help with the symptoms. But as soon as I got home and googled this drug, I was so concerned that I decided not to take it. One of the first listed side effects on Wikipedia... SEIZURES!!! I'm literally not going to touch this medication now I've seen that! It's been a month since I saw him and I'm sure he'll be in touch once he's received the EMG results, but I'm not sure how to explain that I haven't taken them! The symptoms are worse now, I can barely feel my ring and little fingers.

Should my GP have prescribed this medication knowing that I'm seizure prone and hold a driving licence?

Anyone got experience with this drug or can reccomend anything?

Thanks!

I was prescribed it for anxiety. The first pill I took threw me into a grand mal seizure within 30 minutes of taking it.

I've had epilepsy pretty much

I've had epilepsy pretty much my whole life and I'm on amitriptyline for my migraines and topiramate  for my seizures. I tried a lot of medications and different combos when I was little. I've been on these two for awhile and they've worked very well for me. I haven't had a convulsive seizure in 5 years. I know I can't speak for you or anyone else because medicine is different for everyone. I just thought I'd give my input but I know that your body may react differently and I totally respect your option in not taking it.
